Tennis court resurfacing

Tennis court resurfacing
As many of you will have heard our tennis court surface has had some problems.  The LTA Consultant advising on the courts was unable to sign off the completion certificate as the tennis court surface was not of a satisfactory standard.  This was due to small stones lifting off the playing surface caused by an ingress of clay in the initial mix which was supplied by Tarmac Plc. The surface would only get worse over the coming years if left and thus our contractor Fosse have agreed that the surface will be replaced free of charge.

Programme
2 weeks commencing Monday 17th October - Friday 28th October (allowing for reasonable weather conditions)
A small section of fencing  next to the entrance gate will be rolled back and the top one inch of the court surface will be mechanically scraped off and taken away by truck.
A new surface will be relaid and the fencing put back in place.
Blue netball lines will be painted on court 2 followed by white tennis lines on both courts
Please also note:
- the courts won't be painted green until next Spring when the weather is better, so these blue and white lines are only temporary and the playing surface will be black for this temporary period.
- Relaying the courts this Autumn rather than next Spring gives the courts time to cure.  This avoids the problem of court closures next summer due to temperatures over 21 c requiring the courts to be closed until curing could take place.

If the predicted weather isn't sufficiently good the courts will have to be resurfaced next Spring instead but this is unlikely and it is proposed to carry out the work beginning Monday 17th October.

As a result of the works this will mean that there will be no play or coaching after Sunday, 16 October until approximately Wednesday, 2 November.  However, we hope you agree that it is important to have the highest quality courts that have been paid for. This will of course also mean the courts should have a longer life.

Arrangements have been made with users of the Village Hall for temporary safe access during the first week of the works however, the Village Hall and the Village Hall Drive will be closed during the second week of works (Half term) when the tarmac will be laid.

Pedestrian access to the playing fields will be available at all times.

We apologise for the inconvenience to all concerned for the disruption.
